Qualification notes
To attain a Certificate III in Financial Services (Mercantile Agents) 13 units must be achieved:
- 4 industry core units, plus
- 4 sectoral core units, plus
- 5 elective units
Where the industry core units have been demonstrated as a requirement of the Certificate II in Financial Services exemption is provided.
There are three typical operational environments for mercantile agents. Each of these has a specified pathway option for the Certificate III in Financial Services (Mercantile Agents). These options are outlined below and cover:
- collections
- process serving
- repossessions
Industry Core Units
Achieve the following 4 industry core units:
FNSICIND301B Work in the financial services industry
FNSICGEN301B Communicate in the workplace
FNSICGEN302B Use technology in the workplace
FNSICGEN304B Apply health and safety practices in the workplace
Sectoral Core Units
Achieve the following 4 sectoral core units:
FNSMERC304B Locate subjects
FNSICORG302B Prepare reports for management
FNSICIND401B Apply principles of professional practice to work in the financial services industry
FNSICGEN404B Resolve disputes
Elective units
Achieve at least 5 elective units. The 5 elective units may be selected as follows:
- all 5 elective units may be selected from the list of units suitable at Certificate III level
- of the 5 elective units, 2 units may be selected from the list of units suitable at Certificate IV level
- of the 5 elective units, up to 2 units may be selected from other endorsed Training Packages in accordance with other packaging guidelines for this qualification

- individuals seeking a Commercial Agent Licence must undertake the relevant compulsory units listed below, with other highly recommended elective units also being detailed below.
